Australia Day

Archive > Events

We have been very fortunate this year that so many wonderful people took time to visit our school and help us learn about different traditions and places in the world.
Mel Willis, a teacher from Australia came to visit us for the day. We learned about the culture of Australia, its landmarks and wildlife, how to play the didgeridoo and also about the Aboriginal people. Mel showed us how the Aboriginal people use art to tell stories and showed us how to create Aboriginal Art. To continue our link to Australia we have become partner schools with St. Patrick’s, Geelong, New South Wales which provides the children a chance to link up and email children of their own age from a different time zone and culture. We are very excited about this project and hope to video link with their school sometime in the future.

Here are samples of our Aboriginal art work. We used earth colours such as brown, yellow, red and white. Aboriginal people use the aboriginal art to describe events and feelings. We used cotton buds, paint and black paper.
